Pocket Park Meeting Results

Now let’s get to work on a plan that will put the park in Historic Meridian Park! By an overwhelming majority vote (30 in favor, 6 dissenting), the HMPNA membership voted in favor of establishing a pocket park within neighborhood boundaries. Thanks to everyone who came out to our community meeting on September 14 to listen to the presentations and be part of the discussion. We also want to thank all the neighbors who shared their opinions, in favor and dissenting, during the neighbor statements portion of the meeting. Fall Alley Clean-Up

The fall alley clean up is Saturday, October 1.  Volunteers are asked to meet at the roundabout at 9:00 AM for the event.  If you are able, please plan to lend a hand.  Everyone in the neighborhood benefits from clean alleys.  Whatever time you have to assist is appreciated.  If you are unable to volunteer the entire time, stay as long as your schedule permits.

HUNI Forum Features Melina Kennedy

The Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI, of which our neighborhood is a member) will host a city-wide forum for Indianapolis residents to gain a better perspective on mayoral candidate Melina Kennedy’s vision for Indianapolis, including her plans regarding neighborhood economic development, education, and public safety.  At the forum, which is free and open to the public, Kennedy will present her “Vision 2021 Plan: A Plan to Make Indianapolis a Quality of Life Capital.” The forum will be held on Thursday, September 15th at the new Indiana Landmarks Center’s Grand Hall...

HMP is considering bringing a pocket park to the neighborhood. Come be part of the discussion on September 14th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Sanctuary at Trinity Church, 3243 North Meridian Street. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will discuss the benefits and trials and tribulations of urban parks and a panel of guests from other downtown neighborhoods will discuss how they developed and maintain their neighborhood parks and answer any questions you may have. Annual Fall Festival

Mark your calendars for the annual HMP Fall Festival and Chili & Cornbread Cook-off on Saturday, September 17 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  Please join hosts Jean and Lamar Richcreek at 3127 N. Pennsylvania St. for this exciting event!  Entries must be delivered by 6:05 pm SHARP.  Peoples’ Choice and a panel of “celebrity” judges will decide if your chili is worthy of taking home the Golden Ladle this year.  Will a new neighbor steal the glory from an established winner?  Come taste for yourself!

Additional Proposed Beautification Efforts

In addition to a pocket park, the HMPNA Board is actively exploring ways to increase the character of the HMP neighborhood.  One proposed measure to create neighborhood distinction is to have decorative urns strategically placed within our boundaries.  One proposed location is the roundabout at 32nd and Pennsylvania St. The Board is researching placing an historic marker that commemorates the date that HMP was place on the National Register of Historic Places.
