The HMPNA Board is looking for volunteers for the next Meridian Park Home and Garden Tour. If you would like to volunteer as a chair or committee member or you would like to showcase your home or garden, please contact a HMPNA board member. A representative from CICOA spoke at our last HMPNA board meeting to discuss the CICOA Safe at Home Day. Seniors age 60+ may be eligible to receive assistance from CICOA to make their home safe. For applicants that age and income qualify, CICOA volunteers will assess the home and determine what type of services the applicant needs. Services may include: Install grab bars next to toilet, around bathtubs Replace light bulbs Install hand-held showers Install nightlights in hallways, steps, and dark corners Install shower seats (portable, permanently affixed) Build handrails alongside steps...

To cap off a fun weekend, the annual HMP Cajun Brunch took place on May 5 at the home of Drs. Steve Towns & Jeanette Holloway who generously open their doors to neighbors for this annual event every year. Steve and Jeanette spend countless hours in the kitchen preparing delicious Cajun food and neighbors bring their favorite side dish. Children entertain themselves and teens find time to catch up with old friends. Mark Herner played the guitar and provided wonderful entertainment on the front porch. In celebration of the Kentucky Derby, Angela and David Colby opened their home to neighbors for a Derby Party. Neighbors dressed in their best attire and donned their favorite (or most outrageous) hats, ate, drank and wagered on races while sharing in the company of others. The best part was that the all the winnings were donated to the HMP pocket park fund. The Colbys’ generosity and $500 donation toward the pocket park funds are greatly appreciated. Look forward to next year’s Derby Party on May 3, 2014.

The spring alley clean-up was once again a big success thanks to many neighbors that showed up early and ready to work. Our dedicated crew of neighbors drove the alleys ensuring that nothing remains that either can damage your car or obstruct your view. The mighty crew of young children picked up trash along Delaware before they tuckered out and took a break. Thanks to Cassie Mehlman-Rhys for stepping up to lead the Kids Club. The roundabout and other neighborhood greenspaces were treated to a much needed and appreciated facelift. Thanks to all who turned out to lend a hand.
