HMPNA would like to revitalize our Safe Neighborhood Awareness Program (SNAP). SNAP needs volunteers. If you are wondering what you can do to become more active in the neighborhood, consider assisting in or coordinating SNAP. A SNAP volunteer or coordinator will:
- Work with the police or sheriff’s office
- Coordinate meetings to help residents get to know each other and to decide upon program strategies and activities
- Canvass door-to-door to recruit members
- Ask people who seldom leave their homes to be “window watchers,” looking out for children and reporting any unusual activities in the neighborhood
- Gather the facts about crime in your neighborhood or surrounding areas; often residents’ opinions are not supported by facts and accurate information can reduce the fear of crime

ALERT* This evening around midnight an African American male around 50, standing about 5’6 to 5’8 weighing about 150 lbs came to our door knocking and asking for help stating his name is Victor Garcia (or something like that) working at Rock Bottom and “his wife and daughter had a flat at 16th and Meridian”. He asked that we go get them or give him the money for fix a flat. This same man tried the same thing a year ago with the exact same story except he stated he was in the military. He smelled of alcohol. He ran last year when my husband pulled in the driveway. He ran this time when he realized he was caught in a lie.
I am unsure what his plan was-perhaps to get money? Please let residents know he is obviously local and up to no good. He could be dangerous.
