On May 15, 2014, Historic Meridian Park (HMP) will proudly welcome visitors participating in the Indiana Landmarks’ Walking Tour Series during May’s Historic Preservation Month.  A historic neighborhood around Indianapolis will host a walking tour each Thursday in May.

Other featured neighborhoods include:

  • May 1:  Old Speedway
  • May 8:  Cottage Home
  • May 22:  Lockerbie Square
  • May 29:  Old Northside

Participants will learn the rich history of each area and its revitalization, see the range in housing styles, gain an understanding of average sale prices, and see the interior of a home. Bob and JoAnn Giannini have graciously agreed to open the first floor and gardens of their beautiful Arts & Crafts style home at the corner of 32nd and Pennsylvania.

Staged by Indiana Landmarks and Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI), each tour begins at 6:00 PM and is led by Indiana Landmarks and a resident of the neighborhood. The 90-minute tours are $10 per person.  Discounts are available for Indiana Landmarks members and residents of the tour neighborhood, thus HMP neighbors can attend our neighborhood tour for $5, but registration is required. Register online at https://neighborhoodtours2014.eventbrite.com or call 317-636-5409.

A generous thank you to Raginae Laughlin & Chip Heberden for opening Meridian Park Studios at 3103 N. Pennsylvania St. for registration and additional off-street parking. The facility, originally built to house the Indianapolis Art League (now called the Indianapolis Art Center) from 1962 to 1976, presently serves as home to a Pilates studio and a small business technology consulting firm.
