The Neighborhood Association of Historic Meridian Park held a tour of seven homes, three additional gardens, and many vintage cars on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, 2002. The tour’s theme, “Meridian Park: An American Classic – Homes, Gardens & Automobiles,” recognized the importance of the automobile to the development of Meridian Park, one of the Circle City’s first suburbs.

The tour also featured music in the Garrett/Cuthbert Gardens. On Saturday, the Amabile Trio performed on Saturday and the Classic Connection, a women’s barbershop quartet, performed on Sunday.

The neighborhood was the subject of several features in various local media prior to the tour:

  • The Saturday, June 22, 2002 edition of the Indianapolis Star featured an article on the neighborhood by Courtenay Edelhart entitled “Salvaged Suburb: Tour of reclaimed Meridian Park will feature homes, gardens and vintage cars.”
  • Sharon Gamble of WFYI interviewed Ken Keene and Lorraine Vavul about the tour. The interview was broadcast on WFYI’s “The Art of the Matter” on Saturday, June 22, 2002. WFYI is on 90.1 FM.
