As part of the Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corporation’s (MFCDC’s) ongoing efforts to build a stronger, safer, and inclusive community, they work hard to retain and attract homeowners to the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood. HMP is within the MFCDC neighborhood boundaries. One way this is accomplished is through the MFCDC Home Repair Program.

Through their Home Repair Program, MFCDC assists neighborhood homeowners in need of urgent repairs, accessibility modifications, comprehensive rehabilitation, or energy-related home improvements. Average costs of repairs per household are $12,830. This year, one program participant and HMP neighbor, Ora Triplett, received assistance to replace her gutters, secure her front door, and fix her chimney. Meanwhile, MFCDC partnered with the Marion County Health Department to remove the lead paint around her home eliminating the health risk to her grandchildren. Ms. Triplett is an active senior advocate in the neighborhood. MFCDC’s housing manager, Courtney Goodwyn, is “proud that MFCDC has the services available to help a woman who makes it her life to help others.”

Last year, Ms. Triplett participated in CICOA’s Safe at Home day of service in Mapleton-Fall Creek where grab bars were installed in her home to ensure she can “age in place.” Safe at Home is a half-day of service to low-income senior homeowners that provides free minor home modifications such as installing grab bars, handrails, smoke detectors, and performing small yard work projects that help make homes safe and accessible for daily living. As part of the Mid-North Quality of Life initiative, MFCDC once again welcomes CICOA’s Safe at Home day of service to the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood on September 21. A special thank you to CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions from all of us in Mapleton-Fall Creek and HMP.

HMP neighbors are encouraged to contact MFCDC’s Home Repair program if they need assistance in home repairs or would like to participate in the Safe at Home day of service event.

Additionally, MFCDC is rehabbing an HMP home at 128 E. 33rd St. This home will be available for home ownership and will list for $145,000.
