A representative from CICOA spoke at our last HMPNA board meeting to discuss the CICOA Safe at Home Day. Seniors age 60+ may be eligible to receive assistance from CICOA to make their home safe. For applicants that age and income qualify, CICOA volunteers will assess the home and determine what type of services the applicant needs. Services may include:

  • Install grab bars next to toilet, around bathtubs
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Install hand-held showers
  • Install nightlights in hallways, steps, and dark corners
  • Install shower seats (portable, permanently affixed)
  • Build handrails alongside steps inside and/or outside of home
  • Modify/move furniture
  • Change cabinetry hardware (e.g., pull rings vs. knobs)
  • Lower see-thru door viewer
  • Replace door knobs with lever door handles
  • Add non-skid strips on stairs
  • Add color contrast on stairs, doorways, hallways, and countertops
  • Add slip resistant flooring/stair treads
  • Replace rubber-backed rugs or non-slip rugs
  • Yard projects, remove shrubbery and clear pathways

If you or someone you know may benefit from these services, please contact Chris Gautier at cldgautier@yahoo.com.
