The drainage improvement project will continue on Washington Blvd in early October. Neighbors have reported pooling water, problematic driveway slopes, and other issues that DPW will be addressing. The buffer lane painting will also be completed when that work is finished. Some parking may be restricted during this time – there will be door hangers and signage to offer advance notice.

Over the past several years, residents of HMP have experienced a mix of anticipation and concern regarding the planned roadwork along Washington Boulevard. While many welcomed the long-awaited improvements, the introduction of bike lanes and the potential loss of parking created differing opinions among neighbors. During that time, previous HMPNA board leadership adopted a position on the issue that did not reflect the views of the entire neighborhood, leaving some residents feeling excluded from the process.
Moving forward, the current HMPNA board has adopted a new approach. The board’s role will be to share information and updates as they become available, ensuring all residents have access to the facts. However, the board will not take an official stance on issues where opinions may vary widely. Instead, the board will focus on helping neighbors connect with city leaders and agencies and will assist with communication when needed.
At the same time, neighbors are encouraged to take an active role in shaping the community. Residents with shared interests are welcome to form committees or workgroups to move projects forward. Potential opportunities include a beautification committee to enhance the roundabout and pocket park, efforts to support alley clean-up, organizing a home tour, or launching other fundraising ventures. The board is ready to provide support where appropriate, but the energy and ideas of neighbors are what will truly bring these projects to life.
