Get ready for an evening of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on fun right here in the neighborhood.
Board Director Courtney Rude Lamie has teamed up with Amy Pearce, PhD, a neuroscience professor at IU Indy, to bring an exciting new event to HMP aptly called, Science in Your Pocket. With experience running a science festival in Arkansas, Amy is helping design an engaging, kid-friendly night that makes science accessible, interactive, and unforgettable. This event is geared toward elementary-aged kids (ages 4–11), but neighbors of all ages are welcome to join in the fun. Families can explore a variety of hands on activity stations designed to spark curiosity and imagination. From experimenting with gooey oobleck and creating giant bubbles to trying out prism goggles and even a “match the brain to the animal” game, there will be something for every budding scientist. A special “signature” activity will take place at 7:00 PM, so be sure to stick around.
HMP will provide light, summery snacks like popsicles and popcorn to keep everyone cool and energized. There will also be a donation station for those who would like to support community events like this. Every contribution helps the board to continue bringing engaging opportunities to the neighborhood.
The event will be Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Pocket Park at 209 E. 33rd Street. The rain date is Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Interested in helping out? We’d love to have volunteers join us in making this event a success.
Come out, bring the kids, and discover just how fun science can be.
