Life in HMP is humming along at a great pace. We have a lot of activities planned for the warmer weather. By the time this article is printed, we will have already enjoyed our Annual HMP Garage Sale. Many who participated will have donated 10% of their sales to the neighborhood. We are sure that the turnout will be typical of our neighborhood as our neighbors support each other.

On July 20th, neighbors will once again gather to celebrate the Annual Summer Festival. This year’s festival will offer a little different twist. It will feature a barbeque contest and a family-friendly movie on the lawn. Neighbors interested in entering their best barbeque into the contest should bring their dish to the location by 7:15 PM. The winner will be chosen by People’s Choice and presented with a token representing their victory. Thanks to Christy Krieg for graciously offering her yard for the event. Neighbors who are not competing in the barbeque contest are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.  Nicey Treat will be offered for sale at the event with the proceeds going to the neighborhood. If you’ve not had a Nicey Treat, this is your opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat and support the neighborhood. Anyone with specific questions or wishing to set up or tear down the event can contact Wade Johnson at jwjohnson88@hotmail.com or check the Facebook page for updates.

In the wise words of Ralph Nader “When strangers start acting like neighbors…  communities are reinvigorated”. We’ve been fortunate to see that first hand and it has truly made this community one of the best places to live and raise a family.

The HMP Pocket Park Committee continues to work on acquiring the land for the park. Processing and paperwork issues need to be addressed before the transfer of ownership can occur. Once the purchase agreement is signed, HMP will need to survey the property, address tax issues, and order title work. The committee will continue to update the community on the process. Future meetings will be held to update HMP members, but as always, you can contact a board member directly if you have questions. We continue to welcome donations as the park creation has several phases that will need funding beyond land acquisition.

HMP is trying to identify neighbors that may benefit from the CICOA “Safe at Home” program. If you know a senior in our community that may benefit from services such as ninor home modifications or repairs, please contact Chris Gautier at cldgautier@yahoo.com for a referral. Chris is also the coordinator for the neighborhood Senior Program. Volunteers are welcomed to assist Chris as he tries to connect our older neighbors to services for which they many need.

Our new neighbor and Pilates studio has moved into the neighborhood at 3103 N. Pennsylvania St. Plans are underway for a July 18th neighborhood open house from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend and offer a warm welcome to our newest neighbor. A modest sign will sit out front that the owner has promised will be tasteful and in keeping with the desires of the neighborhood.
