Food insecurity is closer to home than many people realize. According to Second Helpings, about 13% of Marion County residents and nearly one in four children, experience hunger. Rising living costs and wages that haven’t kept pace leave many working families earning too much to qualify for assistance programs such as SNAP while still struggling to put food on the table.
Fortunately, several churches and organizations serve neighbors facing food insecurity. One of those is the Mid-North Food Pantry, where Historic Meridian Park residents Ben Sternke, Nicole Brock, Emmett Brock and Steven Slaubaugh recently spent part of their Saturday volunteering. Their willingness to lend a hand reflects the generous spirit that makes HMP such a special place to live.
